Overall Sports Personality of the Year

Over the last few weeks, 3rd and 4th class pupils took part in the Martin Boland writing competition. Lots of time and effort went into writing stories based on this year’s theme of ‘kindness’. Today, all pupils were given a prize in the form of a medal while the winners from each class and the overall winners were awarded trophies. Huge thank you to Martin & Elizabeth Boland for sponsoring the event in memory of their son, Martin.

On Thursday 25th of April, we held a variety show with performances taking place at 5pm and 7pm. A huge amount of talent was on show, including comedians, dancers, singers, guitar players, piano players, poetry recitals and taekwondo performances. We were also treated to a performance by our hosts, Niamh and Mr. Heneghan and concluded with a fantastic performance of the Matilda the Musical Medley by our school choir. Well done to all involved, especially Mr. Dignam, Ms. O’Sullivan and Ms. Duggan for organising and to all staff who helped out on the evening.
Have a look at some photos from our dress rehearsal performance below, which included a surprise performance from a past pupil, Bradley Marshall!

The Credit Union Schools Quiz All-Ireland final took place last Sunday in the RDS where over 90 teams battled it out. I’m absolutely thrilled to announce that our Junior team came in an incredible 4th place! Huge congratulations to our quiz team and to Mr. Dignam. History has been made in St Kilian’s SNS, well done all!

Last week, we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge in school. The aim of Seachtain na Gaeilge is to celebrate and promote the Irish language in school. The week was filled with fun activities including Tráth na gCeist; which was a school quiz through Irish. The winners of the quizzes came from Ms. O’Doherty, Mr. Foran, Mr. Lalor, Ms. O’Leary and Mr. Heneghan’s classes.
On Wednesday and Thursday, every class in the school got an opportunity to visit Caife Chilian which took place in our sports hall. Students were able to make food orders through Irish. The hot chocolates were a big hit.
The highlight of the week was the Seo Talainne (Talent show) that took place on Friday in the sports hall. Each class performed a song in Irish. We were also very grateful to the talented Irish dancers of Alanna and Ella who performed in front of the whole school. We heard some wonderful traditional music that was performed by Ms. O’Brien, Mr. Heneghan, Mr. Dignam and our student teacher Mr. McHale. We had a surprise performance from our very talented 3rd class S.N.A. Niamh Hudson. Our talent show ended with a stirring performance of Amhrán na bhFiann.
I would like to thank all the students and staff for the cooperation in making this years Seachtain na Gaeilge a success.
Billy Davern

Our school girls team had a very successful outing last week. They beat four schools and progressed to the semi final, losing out to Colmcilles SNS, Knocklyon. Great performances were on show from all on our team and we have a very bright future ahead with our three 4th class pupils. Thanks to Mr Davern for leading the team.

On Sunday our Junior and Senior teams took part in the Dublin finals of the Credit Union Quiz. Both teams represented their school really well and the Junior team placed first, making it the first time that a team from St. Kilian’s S.N.S. or from Kilnamanagh Credit Union has ever qualified for the All-Ireland finals. Congratulations to both teams and a massive thank you to Mr. Dignam for preparing and leading the school quiz teams.
