National Success for St. Kilian’s SNS Choir

On Thursday the 19th of March, the school choir competed in the Feis Ceoil. The Feis Ceoil is Ireland’s national classical music competition. In it’s 130 year history, notable winners have included James Joyce, John O’Connor and Bernadette Greevy. Now, St. Kilian’s SNS can be added to that list! The choir won their competition ‘Cóir Aon Ghutha’, winning the Kingston Cup and becoming the first ever group from St. Kilian’s SNS to win a national award. All nine winners of the national awards qualified for the Folen’s Choir of the Year competition. Facing some very stiff competition on the night, the choir placed second out of all of the primary schools in Ireland. This is an unbelievable achievement and we couldn’t be more proud of them. A big thank you to Mr Dignam, Ms Duggan, Ms O’Sullivan and Niamh for all their hard work and dedication in preparing the choir.

St Kilian’s SNS Quiz Team

St. Kilian’s SNS has a very proud tradition of quizzing. This year, five teams took part in the Kilnamanagh and Tallaght West Credit Union Quiz. The teams competed exceptionally well and came 2nd and 3rd in the Junior competition and 2nd and 4th in the Senior competition. Well done to all of the teams involved, and thanks to Mr Dignam and Mr Foran for all the time and effort they put into preparing the teams.

Stripe Young Scientist

For the past five years, St. Kilian’s SNS has qualified for the BT Young Scientist and Technology Competition (now Stripe Young Scientist and Technology Competition) and this year was no different. Mr. Dignam’s 6th class qualified with a project entitled ‘The Science of Flight: How Paper Airplanes Soar’. The children had a great day getting to try lots of different experiments, meeting new people from across Ireland and watching a 3D movie about Space. The day was rounded off by featuring in an interview on News2Day on RTE. Well done to everyone in Mr. Dignam’s 6th Class!

Maths Week 13th-17th October

We marked Maths Week in school with many events and activities which got the children thinking about how we use maths in many ways. We played dice and card games in the library & went to the hall in class groups for our annual maths quiz. There were also car park and classroom trails and challenges, not to forget Maths Week TV! The teachers and children alike enjoyed taking the maths out of the textbook and in to the world around them. Huge thank you to Ms. O’Sullivan for organising all of this week’s events.

Martin Boland Writing Competition 2025

Over the last few weeks, 3rd and 4th class pupils took part in the Martin Boland writing competition. Lots of time and effort went into writing stories based on this year’s theme of ‘adventure’. Today, all pupils were given a prize in the form of a medal while the winners from each class and the overall winners were awarded trophies. Huge thank you to Martin & Elizabeth Boland for sponsoring the event in memory of their son, Martin.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

During the week beginning Monday, 31st March, pupils from 3rd to 6th class at St Kilian’s took to the stage to perform in our school musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

After months of preparation and rehearsals, guided by Mr. Dignam, Ms. O’Sullivan, Ms. Duggan, and Niamh, the children delivered a spectacular three-night performance with the support of a live band.

Their energy, talent, and enthusiasm lit up the stage, and we couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped bring the show to life and supported the production in so many ways.

Take a look below to see some of the children in action!

National Children’s Choir 2025

Over the past few months, our 4th and 5th class students have been working hard to prepare for the National Children’s Choir. With the support and guidance of Mr. Dignam, Ms. O’Brien and Ms. O’Sullivan, they learned 15 songs in various languages in preparation for this special event.

On Wednesday, March 26th, they had the wonderful opportunity to perform at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, singing alongside other schools and accompanied by a live orchestra.

A big thank you to Mr. Dignam, Ms. O’Brien and Ms. O’Sullivan for all their time and effort in helping the children get ready for this unforgettable experience.

The children did an incredible job, and you can enjoy listening to some of the songs they performed below!

Literacy Week 2025

As part of Literacy Week (24th–28th February 2025), screenwriter Peter Salisbury visited our sixth classes through the Writers in Schools scheme. During the workshop, students explored storytelling and created their own film script scenes.

We are delighted to announce that our Book Fair was our most successful yet, raising over €2,300 in free books for our school. We extend our sincere gratitude to all who attended and supported this event, your generosity and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated and will have a lasting impact on our school community.

In our Reading Partners sessions, sixth-class students paired with fourth class, and fifth-class students with third, to share and enjoy their favorite books.

Finally, as part of our Poet-Tree competition, students showcased their creativity by writing short poems on leaves, based on the theme of nature. Congratulations to our winners, pictured below!
